Sept. 28--Promoted, hired

Barb Pfeifer has been promoted at Dakota Carrier Network in Bismarck and Steve Schmit has been hired.

Pfeifer is now a NOC ethernet/IP technician I, having previously been a network support representative. She holds a bachelor's degree in office administration from Concordia College, Moorhead, Minn., and has about 10 years of technical network experience.

Schmit is an inventory controller and has experience working with customers and managing inventory.

Wahab with St. A's

Dr. Parveen Wahab has joined St. Alexius Medical Center as a pediatric hospitalist.

She earned her medical degree from Mahatma Gandhi University in India and completed a pediatric residency at State University of New York Downstate, Brooklyn, N.Y. She is board-eligible by the American Board of Pediatrics.

Three hired by DEI

Allison Bleick, Erica Schaeffer and Megan Morman have been hired by Dakota Eye Institute, Bismarck.

Bleick is an ophthalmic technician. Schaeffer and Morman are receptionists.

Bleick is from Elgin, has two criminal justice degrees from Bismarck State College and also works at the Bismarck- Burleigh Combined Communications Center.

Schaeffer is from Herreid, S.D., and is attending Bismarck State College for an administrative assistant degree.

Morman is from Riverdale and recently graduated from Minot State University with a degree in corporate fitness.

Hamm on council

North Dakota Insurance Commissioner Adam Hamm has been appointed by the National Association of Insurance Commissioners to a two-year term as the state insurance commissioner representative on the Financial Stability Oversight Council.

Hamm is the current president of the NAIC.

Gabriel elected

Lori Gabriel, a commercial loan officer at the Bank of North Dakota, has been elected vice chairman of the board of directors of Dakota Certified Development Corp.

She will serve a two-year term.

Three certified

Three people who work at Sanford Health in Bismarck have earned certifications.

Dr. Matthew Carpenter received certification in orthopedic surgery through the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery after completing written and oral examinations. He will be a diplomate of the ABOS for 10 years. Carpenter has been with Sanford for two years.

Jason Hogan, a physical therapist, received certification in postural restoration through the Postural Restoration Institute. Hogan has been with Sanford for three years.

Tracey Lockrem, a speech language pathologist, became a certified lactation counselor through the Academy of Lactation Policy and Practice. Lockrem has been with Sanford for seven years.

New BND employees

Sam Mattson and Tammy Heick are new employees at the Bank of North Dakota.

Mattson, a vault teller, has a degree in business administration and nine years of banking experience.

Heick is an administrative assistant in technology and operations. She worked for Telecom Training and Safety in Bismarck for 14 years.

Leaders in sales

Shirley Thomas and LeAnn Steidl are Bianco Realty's associates of the month for having the most sales in August. They have been licensed Realtors since 2001 and 1999, respectively.

Two hired by KLJ

Casey Carlen and Tim Swartz have been hired by KLJ in Bismarck.

Carlen is an accounting specialist in the finance group. She earned a bachelor's degree in accounting from Dickinson State University and has more than two years of accounting experience.

Swartz is an information technology specialist in the telecommunications group. He studied computer science and engineering at New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology</org>. Swartz has more than six years of computer experience in the Navy.

Echevarria with BAC

Anthony Echevarria has been hired by Bismarck Aero Center as a full-time support technician in the aircraft maintenance shop and flightline department.

He completed his associate of science degree in auto mechanics in 2001 and has experience as an industrial mechanic in the pharmaceutical manufacturing industry.

Jochim with AE2S

Michael Jochim, PE, has joined Advanced Engineering and Environmental Services Inc. in Bismarck as a structural engineer.

He has more than six years of experience in structural engineering and recently worked for C.W. Structural Engineers as a structural project engineer.

Originally from Bismarck, Jochim holds a bachelor of science degree in civil engineering from the University of North Dakota and an associate in applied science degree in engineering technology from Bismarck State College.

Larshus elected

Dr. Jynette Larshus of Minot is among four people recently elected to the board of directors of the North Dakota Women's Network.

Cramer recognized

Rep. Kevin Cramer, R-N.D., is among 232 representatives named a Guardian of Small Business by the National Federation of Independent Business, based on their voting records on key small-business issues in the 113th Congress.

Heitkamp gets award

For the second consecutive year, Sen. Heidi Heitkamp, D-N.D., has received a Fueling Growth Award from Growth Energy for support of ethanol and the biofuels industry in North Dakota and across the country.

Marihart selected

Cindy Marihart has been hired as director of the Aging Services Division of the state Department of Human Services.

Marihart has worked in the social services field for more than 25 years, most recently as the director of the Mahnomen County Human Services Department in Minnesota.

She has a master's degree in organizational and industrial psychology from the University of West Florida and a bachelor's degree in psychology from the University of Minnesota-Duluth.
