BRIEF: Women’s Hospital volunteer, 95, gets spin on Harley-Davidson

July 03--Longtime Women's Hospital volunteer Fran Hart was kicking it old school on Tuesday afternoon.

Clad in a black leather jacket and snazzy helmet, she reclined in the sidecar of a 2005 Harley-Davidson Road King and tooled around the parking lot like she'd been doing it her whole life.

All 95 years of it.

It started when Hart received a letter from AARP urging her to renew her motorcycle insurance. Hart had never ridden a motorcycle, much less owned one. She couldn't wait to tell her friends at Women's Hospital, where she has volunteered in the gift shop every Tuesday for 23 years.

Those friends -- led by volunteer coordinator Ginger Penley -- hatched a plan to get her on a real motorcycle. Hart received the ride of her life courtesy of Ralph Yerex, a local veterinarian and member of the Buffalo Soldiers motorcycle club.

After her ride Tuesday, Hart declared it "a little hot in the helmet and jacket."
