BRIEF: Police: Hopewell Township couple faked claims [York Daily Record, Pa.]

Sept. 03--A Hopewell Township couple has been charged with defrauding its insurance company out of more than $8,000.

In May, Robert Bangledorf and Meghan Willard told Pennsylvania State Police that someone damaged Willard's car, police said. Last month, they said someone had broken into their home in the 14000 block of Kilgore Road and stolen more than $11,000 worth of items, police said.

The couple made three claims to Allstate Insurance -- two for the car and one for the break-in -- and received $8,090 from the company, police said.

But their story did not add up, according to Trooper Michael J. Mitchell.

"Their (insurance) claims were not consistent with what was reported (to police)," Mitchell said.

The investigation revealed Bangledorf keyed Willard's car in May, Mitchell said, and the two lied about the location and value of items taken from their home, police said.

Both have been charged with insurance fraud, filing false reports to law enforcement and making false statements.

Bangledorf, 39, was released on $10,000 unsecured bail. Willard, 20, was released on her own recognizance.
