Sept. 10--A Miami woman was arrested Friday for diverting mail and stealing payments intended for Citizens Property Insurance.
Aylin Hernandez, 23, was arrested on charges of organized fraud and grand theft. Hernandez created her own corporation named Citizens Property Insurance Inc. and opened an account under that name at Check Cashing USA.
The Division of Insurance Fraud found that Hernandez used information she obtained while working as a clerk at several insurance agencies to send invoices to law offices and title companies handling homeowners' insurance escrow and service payments.
The firms, believing their payments were going to the real, state-run property insurer, mailed Hernandez eight checks worth more than a total of $12,000 -- which Hernandez cashed.
Hernandez faces up to 45 years in prison.
