The 6-year-old boy suffered first- and second-degree burns when he attempted to rescue the dog. The boy was not able to get his pet from the burning home.

It took the 13 firefighters who responded about 10 minutes to get the blaze under control. They remained on scene for about two hours ensuring all hot spots were extinguished.
The home was destroyed by the fire and the family has no insurance, Bales and Dodd said.
It is believed the fire may have been caused by a portable heater.
No firefighters were injured.
