April 28--Zavier, a fourth grader from Bonnyview Elementary at 95 pounds, came back from a 3-0 deficit, tied the score and won on criteria by getting the final points with 30 seconds left on the clock Saturday.

Zavier had gone to the state championships three times before where he placed third twice and second last year.

A total of 10 RAWC wrestlers placed Saturday. Also in Greco Intermediate, Dominic Sweeney made the finals after coming in second place (75s).

The RAWC had three placers in Greco Bantam: Spencer Riego was eighth (50s), Darrain Jensen was eighth (60s) and Connor Dillman was seventh (65s).

In Freestyle Cadets, Elijah Siaz was sixth at heavyweights. For the Greco Open division, the three placers were Kai Scott, who was sixth, and Joe Holcomb, who was seventh, both at 145 pounds, and Terry Matthews, who was seventh (163s). Zach Amtsberg was eighth (152s) in the Freestyle Cadets division.

In Sunday results, in Junior Boys Freestyle, Otto Kutsch of Shasta High was seventh (220s). In Junior Girls Freestyle, Dorothy Amtsberg was fourth (159s). In Open Freestyle, Joseph Holcomb was fifth and Scott was sixth (both 145s), and Terry Matthews was eighth (163s)..

The wrestling club is hosting the North Area Wrestling Championship on Saturday at Shasta College.

captures firsts

Samuel Grafe of Shasta High School had two first-place finishes Saturday at the West Valley Invitational track and field meet at Harrison Stadium in Oroville.

Grafe was first in the 1600-meter run (4:49.74) and led the 3200-meter run (10:28.71).

The Shasta 4x100-meter relay team also claimed first place (47.13) with Mario Valdez, Tre-Von Lewis, Kevin Pistorius and Alec Schneider.

In boys team scores, Chico was first, followed by Enterprise, West Valley, Nevada Union and Shasta.

Colton Deaver of Enterprise took first in the 800-meter run (2:06.99). In the girls 800-meter run, first place went to Red Bluff'sAdrienne Hinkston (2:28.22).

River Cats vouchers aid U-Prep baseball

The University Preparatory School baseball program is selling Sacramento River Cats ticket vouchers as a fundraiser.

Vouchers cost $20 and are good for any regular season home game for the 2014 season. Tickets are good for the Senate seat section behind first and third dugout sections. All proceeds support the Panther Baseball program.

Anderson Aquagators accepting sign-ups

Sign-ups for the Anderson Aquagators competitive swim team will be Thursday, between 5-7 p.m. at West Valley High School.

The cost is $110 for swimmers ages 5 through 8 (plus $46 for insurance), and $150 for swimmers 9-18 years old (plus $46 for insurance).

Practices are offered but swimmers are not required to attend all of them. Practices are at West Valley High School, 5:30-7 p.m. Monday through Thursday from May 5 to June 5, then weekday mornings from 7:45-9:30 a.m. and Monday through Thursday evenings from 6:15-8 p.m. from June 9-Aug. 1.

Golf tourney to benefit CV athletics

Central Valley High School is holding a golf fundraiser for its athletic department May 17 at Gold Hills Golf Club.

The cost is $100 per player or $400 per team and includes green fees, cart, range balls and dinner.

Enterprise offers sports camps

Enterprise High School is offering summer camps for boys basketball, football for incoming freshmen, girls basketball and volleyball.

Boys basketball is for fourth through eighth graders from 8 a.m. to noonJune 9-13. For ninth through 12th graders, the time is 2 to 5 p.m. Cost is $75.

Football for incoming freshmen runs from 8 a.m. to noonJune 16-20 and costs $50.

The girls basketball camp is from 9 a.m. to noonJune 16-20 for fourth through eighth graders, and from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. for ninth through 12th graders and costs $60.

Volleyball is for fourth through 12th graders from 2 to 5 p.m.Aug. 4-7 and costs $50.

Sign-up forms are online at the Enterprise High School website or you can sign up the day of at the door.
