July 09--Attendance is high at Leitchfield Aquatic Center following the facility's first full week open.

Leitchfield Tourism Director Ilsa Johnson addressed the Leitchfield City Council, during its regularly scheduled meeting on Monday, July 7, to present attendance figures for the recently opened facility.

Leitchfield Aquatic Center had its official grand opening on Saturday, June 28, and, Johnson said, since that time, attendance has steadily risen.

"The pool is going great," she said.

Johnson said during its first full week (Sunday, June 29 through Saturday, June 5) over 3,000 people visited the aquatic center.

In its busiest day, Leitchfield Aquatic Center saw 471 individuals enter with paid admission and more than 20 enter with day passes.

Johnson said she has also seen many visitors to the aquatic center from surrounding counties, including Hardin, Edmonson, Breckinridge, and Muhlenburg Counties.

Leitchfield Aquatic Center is currently offering four swimming lesson sessions with about 50 students enrolled. Three or four students will be taught in each lesson.

Additionally, Johnson said that 42 family season passes, which cost $175, have been sold, and six individual season passes, which cost $75, have been sold, and many individuals are still asking about the passes.

Also during the meeting, Leitchfield Mayor William Thomason said for the aquatic center's 2015 season, Farm Bureau Insurance will donate $5,000 in day passes to needy families.

Leitchfield Aquatic Center is located at 201 East Carroll Gibson Blvd. and is open Monday through Thursday from 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.
