Anchor O&P Provides New Leg to Inspiring South Lake Tahoe Amputee

Anchor Orthotics and Prosthetics of Sacramento is raising $25,000 to provide South Lake Tahoe wrestling coach Ryan Wallace with a new prosthetic leg. They have launched a digital campaign to spread the word and gain support before the April 17th fundraising deadline. Family members, friends, and other supporters are rallying to help Wallace #GETBACKONTHEMAT, and over 20% of the cost has been collected to date.

Wallace elected to amputate his leg while in high school, after being diagnosed with an extremely rare form of bone disease. Nearly ten years later, he serves as a coach and mentor for South Lake Tahoe's high school and middle school wrestling teams. Unfortunately, Wallace has been put on medical leave for the 2013-2014 season due to irreparable damage to his existing prosthetic leg.

Anchor O&P staff members were inspired by stories of his positive influence on the members of Wallace's wrestling teams and the South Lake Tahoe community. They immediately decided to help by donating various materials and labor costs to build a new leg that will enable Wallace to coach again. Given Wallace's active lifestyle, the Anchor O&P team hopes to provide a high-performance and long lasting prosthetic that incorporates a number of costly elements from other companies.

"We are trying to raise enough money for Ryan Wallace to receive a micro-processing knee and an energy storing foot," says Clint Jonutz, a prosthetist with Anchor O&P. "This is the same setup that Ryan has used for the last ten years, and we're hoping that this will allow him to get back to his normal activities and what he does best, which is helping others out."

Wallace has no medical insurance to cover the cost of these elements. Anchor O&P has reached out to local supporters in the South Lake Tahoe community, and now they are eager to find additional support from the general public.
