Aiello Eye Institute to build outpatient surgery center [The Sun, Yuma, Ariz.]

Oct. 20--The Aiello Eye Institute has submitted plans for construction of an ambulatory surgery center next to its office at 275 W. 28th St., confirmed Marlene Aiello, administrator for the ophthalmology practice. Many outpatient surgeries will be able to performed at the new center, allowing for increased convenience and improved care for patients.

Construction is expected to begin in mid- to late November, she said.

Aiello Eye Institute is the practice of ophthalmologist Dr. Patrick Aiello, whose top surgical procedures include cataract, glaucoma and Lasik surgeries. Other medical staff members include optometrist Dr. Elliott Snyder and ophthalmologist Dr. Henry O'Halloran.

-- Building permits have been issued for tenant improvements for Yuma Elks Lodge in its new home at 1917 W. 32nd St., reported Alan Kircher, city of Yuma deputy building official. It will be nearly 20,000 square feet.

In other city building activity, Kircher reported:

--Yet another school, Gila Vista Junior High School, 2245 S. Arizona Ave., is going solar. Plans have been submitted for a 290 kilowatt solar photovoltaic canopy project for the school.

--Yuma Regional Medical Center has submitted plans for a medical examiner and lab refrigerator.

--A certificate of occupancy has been issued for tenant improvements for Title Max at 2780 S. Pacific Ave.

--Building permits have been issued for a 1,600-square-foot addition to Sprague's Sports, 345 W. 32nd St.

-- Vintage Nest has just opened its doors in downtown Yuma at 224 S. Main St., Suite 105. It specializes in shabby chic, repurposed and new home decor.

Owners Amador and Alma Reyes describe their shop as "small in size but big on choices for that unique piece to make your house a home."

-- Pets Plus Superstore, 1491 S. 4th Ave., has closed its doors and all that remains inside are some shelving and a few aquariums. The store, which opened in 1989, had carried puppies, kittens, fish, reptiles and exotic animals as well as supplies for their care.

The business was purchased last year by Delmer and Sherrie Wentzel, who couldn't be reached by press time for more information about the closure.

-- STi Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation recently opened a clinic in Yuma at 3970 W. 24th St., Suite 108, in the Mission Valley Plaza at the corner of Avenue C and 24th Street. It can be reached at (928) 783-0555.

An Arizona company, STi has had nine clinics in the Phoenix area for more than 25 years and now has expanded to Yuma. The Yuma clinic manager is Carissa Millikan, who has been with STi for five years and has relocated to open the newest location here.

-- Alarms Security Networks has recently added a new registration and firm certification with the Arizona Board of Technical Registration for security alarm installations and service as an ADT authorized dealer and service subcontractor for Yuma County.

In compliance with a new requirement that went into effect Oct. 1, the company's technicians have completed background checks, been registered and have received their alarm agent certifications along with their picture ID from the state.

As a safety issue, any person or company now must have certification and a photo ID card with them to enter a a business or home to install or service of any alarm system. The new requirements are the result of a bill signed into law by the 2012 Legislature that assigns statewide responsibility for regulation of alarm businesses and agents to the Arizona Board of Technical Registration (see details at http://azbtr.gov).
