Aegis London Moves Into Reinsurance Treaty With Appointment of Underwriter

The U.K.-based subsidiary of Aegis (Associated Electric & Gas Insurance Services Ltd.) said it is moving into the reinsurance treaty business with the appointment of Chris White as property treaty underwriter.
Reporting to John Chambers, deputy active underwriter and head of specialty lines, White comes to Aegis London from Odyssey Re, where he spent the past 10 years underwriting property treaty reinsurance and direct and facultative reinsurance and retrocession business. White had also held positions in casualty underwriting and claims with TIG Reinsurance, Imperial Fire and Marine Reinsurance Co. and American Reinsurance Co. (UK) Ltd.
"A strong theme of Aegis London over recent years has been the addition of new, complementary lines of business to create a balanced and diversified portfolio," said David Croom-Johnson, active underwriter for Aegis London, in a statement. "Moving into reinsurance treaty is a continuation of this strategy and we are fortunate to secure the appointment of Chris White, whose experience will be invaluable to us as we grow this new are of business for Aegis London."
Aegis operates Lloyd's Syndicate 1225, which has a capacity of 310 million pounds for 2010. Aegis started as an energy insurance specialist and has diversified into nearly a dozen specialty lines.
