WASHINGTON (AP) — The family of a pregnant American woman who went missing in Afghanistan in late 2012 with her Canadian husband received two videos last year in which the couple asked the U.S. government to help free them from Taliban captors, The Associated Press has learned. The videos offer the first and only clues about what happened to Caitlan Coleman and Joshua Boyle after they lost touch with their families 20 months ago while traveling in a mountainous region near the capital, Kabul. U.S. law enforcement officials investigating the couple's disappearance consider the videos authentic but say they hold limited investigative value since it's not clear when or where they were made.

Bowe Bergdahl being handed over to U.S. forces and bundled into a helicopter in eastern Afghanistan, touting the swap of the abducted American soldier for five Taliban detainees from Guantanamo as a significant achievement for the insurgents. The exchange and still-murky circumstances of how Bergdahl came to be captured by the Taliban nearly five years ago have prompted a fierce debate in Washington after the five freed Taliban were flown to Qatar, a tiny Gulf Arab country that served as a mediator between the two sides.

Miss. GOP Senate candidates face likely runoff

WASHINGTON (AP) — Locked in a squeaker of a race, Mississippi Sen. Thad Cochran and tea party-backed challenger Chris McDaniel pointed toward a possible June 24 runoff after battling to a near-draw Tuesday in a primary that underscored Republican differences. Unofficial returns from 99 percent of the state's precincts showed McDaniel with slightly under 50 percent of the vote in a three-way race and Cochran slightly under 49 percent. It takes a majority by one candidate to avoid a runoff.

Rebels in Ukraine seize another border guard base

LUHANSK, Ukraine (AP) — Rebels have seized another border guard base in eastern Ukraine, the third such military facility taken over the last day. Insurgents on Wednesday descended on the base in the town of Sverdlovsk on the Russian border, and forced out the guards.

Israel doctors won't force-feed Palestinians

JERUSALEM (AP) — Proposed legislation to permit the force-feeding of Palestinian prisoners on hunger strike is pitting Israel's government against the country's main doctors' association, which says the practice amounts to torture. Last of original group of Navajo Code Talkers dies

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (AP) — The last of the 29 Navajos who developed an unbreakable code that helped win World War II has died. Chester Nez, of Albuquerque, New Mexico, died Wednesday morning of kidney failure. He was 93.
