A Word of Caution about Cheap Home Owners Insurance Quotes
January 18, 2010
When shopping for home owners insurance quotes, consumers need to be on guard from the attraction of cheap policies. What can save them money in the short term can cost them a lot more in down the road in terms of out of pocket expenses and coverage. A recent article on InsuranceAgents.com illustrates the hazards of buying into too-good-to-be-true cheap homeowners insurance.
The InsuranceAgents.com article, “Beware of Cheap Homeowners Insurance,” warns homeowners of the pitfalls of not looking past a policy’s price tag.
“A cheap homeowners insurance policy is going to lure you in with a price that saves you a ton of money in the short term, but doesn’t offer you a whole lot of coverage. For most people, their home is their most precious piece of property, and adequately insuring it is a responsibility of the homeowner,” states the article.
A proper homeowners insurance policy should include more than enough liability coverage, hazard insurance and coverage for additional living expenses. Most cheap homeowners insurance policies, the prices of which sound almost unbelievable, skimp on or skip these coverage options entirely.
It is also important for a homeowner to rely on his or her home insurance agent.
The article recommends homeowners to conduct interviews any potential insurance agents and to also check with their state’s insurance department to confirm the agent(s) is licensed.
“Remember, this is the person that will be handling your home’s financial protection—you need to be able to trust them to offer you a customized policy rather than cheap homeowners insurance with little coverage.”
Other ways to save money on home insurance coverage rather than falling prey to unstable cheap homeowners insurance is to shop online for home insurance quotes. By comparing several policies and quotes, you will be better able to judge for yourself which quotes are unrealistic and which ones reflect a quality policy.
