BRYN MAWR, Pennsylvania, Nov. 22 -- The American College of Financial Services issued the following news release:
On November 17, 2017, Maurice Stewart, CLU(R), ChFC(R), CLF(R), and the late George G. Joseph, CLU(R), received the Solomon S. Huebner Gold Medal from The American College of Financial Services in recognition of their leadership and accomplishments in the financial services profession. Both individuals were formally honored at The College's annual President's Dinner that took place at The Franklin Institute in Philadelphia, Pa.
Maurice Stewart, an executive consultant for Penn Mutual Life Insurance Company, launched his career with Penn Mutual in 1952 and was consistently one of its top performing agents. In 2008, Maury was honored with the establishment of the Maurice L. Stewart Lecture Series at The American College in partnership with Penn Mutual. This annual lecture focuses on issues critical to the practice of leadership development, and it features thought leaders with innovative ideas. Maury was inducted into The College's Alumni Hall of Fame in 2012 in recognition of his accomplishments in the insurance industry and his stalwart dedication to continuing education.
George Joseph spent 30 years with New England Life, beginning as an agent in 1946 and later becoming executive vice president of marketing. In 1976, George was elected president of the Life Insurance Marketing and Research Association (LIMRA) in Hartford, Conn. and served in that capacity until 1983. In honor of his commitment to the profession, the General Agents and Managers Conference created the George G. Joseph Chair in Practice Management at The American College, which later became the George Joseph/Richard Liddy Chair. Mr. Joseph passed away in July 2017 at the age of 98, and was honored posthumously.
According to Robert R. Johnson, Ph.D., CFA(R), CAIA(R), CLF(R), The College's President and CEO, "Both of these remarkable individuals are inextricably tied to each other. Maury Stewart once served as the George Joseph Chair at The College, and the two men were tremendous friends. When George was notified of the award, he was overwhelmed and honored that he would be receiving the Gold Medal along with his dear friend, Maury Stewart."
