Harvard Management Company’s Argentine Timberland Plantations Secure FSC Certification

Proquest LLC

Harvard Management Company's (HMC) timberland plantations, EVASA and Las Misiones, located in Northern Argentina, announced they have obtained Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certification.

The certifications were awarded by the Rainforest Alliance, an independent third-party accredited to certify companies to FSC's international standards.

According to a release, the certifications (EVASA license code FSC-C023237; Las Misiones license code FSC-C115562) verify continued adherence to FSC's standards in the environmental, economic and social performance of timber plantations, and endorses EVASA's and Las Misiones' strong track record of maintaining responsible forestry management practices.

"HMC is a pioneer of natural resource investments and third party audits are one component of our extensive due diligence process, validating our commitment to the sustainable and responsible management of the properties we hold and the operations of our local managers," said Jameela Pedicini, Vice President of Sustainable Investing at HMC. "We view the FSC's annual audit system as an opportunity for continuous improvement of the responsible stewardship of our properties."

As a long-term investor, HMC adheres to best practices in sustainable investment, including compliance, operations, finance and accounting, environmental and social sustainability, good governance, and risk management.

FSC is an independent, not-for-profit organization devoted to encouraging responsible management of the world's forests.

Harvard Management Company is a subsidiary of Harvard University. HMC provides professional investment management of the University's $32 billion endowment and related financial assets, using a hybrid structure integrating internal and external management.
