Wright State to offer car sharing

The company, which rents vehicles for as little as an hour or for days at a time, is starting service with two cars near the front of the
"It's going to benefit a large group of students, whether it's residents who don't come to campus with cars or international students who come across the water and don't have cars," said
Powell, a junior from Moorfield Twp. in
Members make reservations either online, by phone, or use of a smartphone app. At the reservation time, members use a unique "Zipcard," to open a car by placing it over an a radio frequency identification reader affixed to the windshield.
"We're in the day and age of technology, so this is easy," said Powell. "Students are able to walk right up to the car and access it through their phone and membership card. "
After attending a conference two years ago where
"We're starting with two and see how the program takes off," Kretzer said. The program is not costing the university anything beyond two parking spots and the installation of two posts to mount signs, according to Kretzer.
Unlike some universities,
"This will allow for fewer students to actually have to have cars," Kretzer said.
Himberg, the
"I know some students who don't have vehicles and it's tough on them to get rides or find transportation," said
"I've got my own vehicle," Allen said. "But I'd use them if I needed to."
