XL Catlin’s North America Property Insurance Team Promotes Two in US and Bermuda

By a News Reporter-Staff News Editor at Insurance Weekly News -- XL Catlin's North America Property Insurance business announced two promotions. William Volz has been promoted to Southern California Regional Underwriting Leader in Los Angeles while Mark Flanagan has been appointed Chief Property Underwriter in Hamilton, Bermuda.

According to Michele Sansone, President of XL Catlin's North America Property business, "It's exciting to see that our continued growth, increase capacity and product development in North America is making way for personal growth and professional development for our most experienced and ambitious colleagues. Billy and Mark have proven to be valuable assets, each making solid contributions to growing our property business in both the US and Bermuda."

Most recently serving as Vice President, Property Underwriter in New York, Mr. Volz is relocating to Los Angeles. In his new role, he will engage both his underwriting skill and property engineering background to assist brokers and clients throughout the western US insure their most complex property risks. Prior to joining XL Catlin in 2009, he served as an account and loss prevention engineer at FM Global.

Commenting on Mr. Flanagan's promotion, Patrick Tannock, Chief Executive Officer, Insurance, XL Bermuda Ltd, said: "I am pleased to see Mark assume property underwriting management responsibilities for our Bermuda operation. Given Mark's strong portfolio management and leadership skills, we are fortunate to have someone of Mark's calibre step into this role. Mark is well respected within XL Catlin and the Bermuda market. I'm confident that under his leadership the XL Catlin property platform will further enhance XL Catlin's position as the carrier of choice in Bermuda and globally."

In his new role as Chief Property Underwriter in XL Catlin's Bermuda Insurance operations, Mr. Flanagan reports to Mr. Tannock and will oversee the underwriting management of XL Catlin's quota-share and excess property accounts serviced from Bermuda. Prior to joining XL Catlin in 2012, his career included positions with Jardine Lloyd Thompson and FM Global.
