Word & Brown Senior Director of Education Paul Roberts Named to NABIP’s National Legislative Council, Re-elected to CAHIP Board of Directors

Word & Brown General Agency Senior Director of Education and Market Development Paul Roberts, REBC, has been selected to join the National Association of Benefits and Insurance Professionals (NABIP) 2024-2025 National Legislative Council. An expert in group health insurance administration, Paul will serve as a regional legislative liaison for NABIP’s Region 8, which includes California, Nevada, Washington, Oregon, Alaska, and Hawaii, supporting statewide and national legislative endeavors.

In his new role, Paul will be working with NABIP leaders and other subject matter experts on national legislative priorities, congressional testimony, and regulatory engagement in Washington, DC, for 2024-2025. NABIP is America’s largest trade group comprised of more than 100,000 licensed health insurance agents, brokers, general agents, consultants, and benefits professionals through more than 200 chapters nationwide. NABIP members service the health insurance needs of large and small businesses as well as those seeking individual health insurance coverage.

In addition to his work with NABIP, Paul was recently re-elected as Vice President of Legislation at the California Association of Health Insurance Professionals (CAHIP). Paul serves on the 12-member CAHIP executive board at California’s largest health insurance trade association. Paul was first elected as CAHIP’s VP of Legislation in 2023. He previously served as VP of Public Affairs at CAHIP during 2020-2021.

Paul Roberts joined the Word & Brown General Agency in 2006 and has since contributed to various roles throughout the organization. In his current role, Paul leads Word & Brown’s compliance efforts to help brokers, employers, and employees better understand group health insurance, regulatory changes, and ongoing legislative developments. A nationally recognized Continuing Education trainer for licensed insurance agents in all 50 states, Paul is also a certified instructor for the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) and the Human Resource Certification Institute (HRCI). He educates HR professionals and employers on legislative and compliance topics related to group health insurance administration.

He is a published author and frequent columnist on employee benefits and HR-related topics. Paul has developed dozens of Continuing Education courses and has led Word & Brown’s annual Week of Webinars online CE Credit series for California brokers. During the past seven years, this program has helped agents earn more than 62,000 CE Credits.
