WellCare Surpasses 1 Million Members in Florida

PR Newswire

TAMPA, Fla., Feb. 14, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- WellCare of Florida, a WellCare Health Plans, Inc. (NYSE: WCG) company, announced today its membership has surpassed 1 million members in the state of Florida across its Medicaid, Children's Medical Services Health Plan, Healthy Kids and Medicare plans.

(PRNewsfoto/WellCare Health Plans, Inc.)

This growth milestone is primarily a result of WellCare expanding its Medicaid services in Florida's Statewide Medicaid Managed Care (SMMC) program and managing the Children's Medical Services (CMS) Health Plan in partnership with Florida Department of Health (DOH).

"WellCare has proudly served Florida's Medicaid managed care program for more than 20 years," said Elizabeth Miller, WellCare's state president in Florida. "Our growth in the state is a testament to our proven track record of providing our members with access to high-quality, comprehensive healthcare solutions."

As of Jan. 31, 2019, WellCare serves the following members in Florida:

  • 774,000 Medicaid members through its Staywell brand, which includes members enrolled in its serious mental illness specialty plan and in its long term care specialty plan;
  • 74,000 Florida Healthy Kids members;
  • 102,000 Medicare Advantage (MA) members; and
  • 63,000 Medicare prescription drug plan (PDP) members.

In addition, on Feb. 1, 2019, WellCare added 66,000 members from the CMS Health Plan through its contract with DOH.

With more than 1 million members across the state, WellCare reaches 1 in 20 Floridians through its plans. WellCare estimates that it is among the largest managed care organizations providing Medicaid managed care services plans, MA plans and PDPs, as measured by membership.

To support membership growth, WellCare anticipates hiring more than 1,000 new associates across the state. New positions include clinical functions such as care managers, social workers and behavioral health professionals and operational functions including member and provider outreach, network development, finance and operations professionals. For a complete list of open positions, visit https://jobs.wellcare.com/.

"At WellCare, we continually strive to make a meaningful difference in the lives of our members and our local communities," said Miller. "As we look ahead in 2019, we are excited to bring more full-time jobs to the state of Florida and welcome new team members who can help us in our mission to help Floridians lead better, healthier lives."
