Wall Street declines on lower consumer outlook, despite increase in retail sales
Stocks in New York fell today following the release of lower consumption projections by large companies and despite a rise in retail sales last month, amid mixed signals about the future of the Federal Reserve's rate policy. Macy's, Nordstrom, Kohl's and Gap also fell sharply. Macy's, which reports its financial results Thursday, fell 7.5%.
