Waiver Approval Follows Bennet-led Letter Requesting Authorization

Washington, D.C. - Today, Colorado U.S. Senator Michael Bennet welcomed the decision from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) to grant Colorado's application for a waiver to establish a reinsurance program, which will reduce health care premiums for thousands of Colorado families. In May, Bennet led a letter from Colorado's Congressional delegation calling on CMS to grant the waiver. The reinsurance program is expected to decrease premiums by 16% across the state and as much as 27% in rural and mountain areas.
"This waiver is a commonsense policy that will go a long way in lowering premiums for Coloradans across the state, helping to put quality health care coverage in reach for more families," said Bennet. "We will continue our efforts to build on the Affordable Care Act, protect pre-existing conditions, and ensure that all Coloradans have access to quality, affordable health care."
