UPDATE: Name of motorcyclist killed on Route 30 released

Aug. 24--CANTON TWP. A 65-year-old motorcyclist from Perry Township was killed Friday afternoon in a collision with a semitrailer U.S. Route 30 or Lincoln St. E just east of Trump Avenue SE.

David Kleinhenz died immediately on impact with the truck due to head trauma, said Rick Walters, a Stark County Coroner's office investigator. No helmet was recovered from the scene.

No one else, including the driver of the semitrailer, was hurt, the Stark County Sheriff's office said. Neither vehicle had passengers.

Deputy Coroner Frank Miller will perform an examination of the body and likely an autopsy Saturday, said Walters. Walters added that investigators are seeking surveillance video from the Speedway gas station and nearby McDonald's to help determine what happened.

The accident at the 4100 block of Lincoln Street took place around 2:29 p.m.

Stark County Sheriff's deputies closed U.S. 30 east of Trump Avenue as part of their investigation until about 5:36 p.m.

A statement issued by the Stark County Sheriff's Office said Kleinhenz was driving a 2004 Kawasaki motorcycle. The other vehicle was a 1995 Kenworth Semi.

Sheriff's deputies, Canton Township firefighters and paramedics arrived to find the truck and the motorcycle on its side in the left turn lanes from westbound U.S. 30 to southbound Trump.

Stark County Sheriff's Maj. C.J. Stantz said deputies are investigating whether the motorcyclist sought to drive through the left turn lane when he collided with the truck as it moved into the lane.

Kleinhenz left behind a wife, son and other family members.
