UMACO Achieves Over $20 Million in Savings for Fourth Consecutive Year, Setting New Healthcare Standards

PR Newswire

Healthcare network provides high-quality, coordinated care across the state of Delaware.

NEWARK, Del., Oct. 25, 2023 /PRNewswire/ -- For the fourth consecutive year, United Medical Accountable Care Organization (UMACO) has achieved over $20 million dollars in savings between Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial insurance.

"At United Medical, we recognize the evolving landscape of healthcare and understand the importance of adapting to meet the changing needs of our patients. Our commitment to innovation is unwavering, and these new solutions underscore our dedication to making healthcare more efficient, effective, and patient-centered," said Kemal Erkan, Chairman and CEO of United Medical ACO.

Regarding the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), UMACO recorded a 11.87% savings rate, as one of the top-17 performing ACOs in the country and will receive over $4 million in shared savings as a result.

UMACO is a Delaware based, multispecialty Medicare Shared Savings Program Accountable Care Organization (ACO), providing beneficiaries with access to high-quality, coordinated care across the state. Established in 2005, UMACO has been a stronghold in sustaining independent providers as the backbone of healthcare in Delaware. By aggregating resources within a single physician-led entity, UMACO enables Delaware's private practices to enjoy economies of scale and to remain in family practice, at a time of growing physician shortage. This, in turn, ensures affordability of care by keeping the primary place of service outside of the more expensive hospital setting.

Over the last half decade, UMACO has maintained its position as the least expensive accountable care organization in Delaware.

We remain the largest network of professionals in a group practice arrangement in Delaware. "UMACO has mastered the art of dynamic interaction between patients and their providers through the 'One patient - One chart' EHR platform provided by Oracle Health," stated Dr. Isaias Irgau, Vice Chair of UMACO & President of CHRIAS. Our care network unites over 180 providers and more than 225,000 patients in a clinically integrated electronic medical record system by Oracle Cerner; making us the first fully clinically integrated, physician-led ACOs in Delaware. Across Delaware, UMACO has over 70,000 members currently under value-based care, in the Commercial insurance, Medicaid, Medicare and Medicare Advantage segments.

Our sustained high performance reflects our success at establishing and implementing a co-management framework for overseeing our members, especially our chronic disease patients, and using the incentives in our value-based insurance contracts to ensure that participating providers can continuously evolve their practices.

We are harnessing our integrated digital health platform, in partnership with our providers, to meet our patients' needs, change behaviors for improved population health and collaboratively enhance their overall experience of care.
