U.S. Labor Department Awards Funding to Support Recovery Efforts After October 2016’s Severe Storms, Flooding in Central Pennsylvania

WASHINGTON, Jan. 18 -- The U.S. Department of Labor's Employment and Training Administration issued the following news release:

Funding Awarded to: Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry

Number of Workers Served: Approximately 39

Use of Funds: The U.S. Department of Labor approved a National Dislocated Worker Grant award for $238,049 to the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry to create disaster relief employment for individuals to assist with clean-up and recovery efforts following severe storms and flooding that affected central Pennsylvania in October 2016.

The funds will be used to assist with clean-up, demolition, repair, renovation and reconstruction of public structures, facilities and lands within the Pennsylvania counties of Bradford, Centre, Lycoming and Sullivan.

Background: Supported by the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act of 2014, National Dislocated Worker Grants temporarily expand the service capacity of dislocated worker training and employment programs at the state and local levels by providing funding assistance in response to large, unexpected economic events which cause significant job losses. The grants generally provide resources to states and local workforce investment boards to reemploy laid-off workers quickly by offering training to increase occupational skills.
