Trump Insists He Pays ‘Millions’ In Taxes And Retains ’Impressive’ Wealth
New York Daily News, The (NY)
The “very stable genius” in the White House wants you to believe he pays lots of taxes and is very wealthy.
Reeling from a bombshell report on his taxes, President Trump claimed Monday that he pays “many millions” every year to Uncle Sam and that his debts are insignificant compared to the value of his sprawling real estate empire.
“I ... was entitled, like everyone else, to depreciation & tax credits,” Trump wrote on Twitter. “I have very little debt compared to the value of assets.”
Trump suggested that he “may” soon release a barebones financial statement itemizing his assets, which he described as “extraordinary” and “IMPRESSIVE.”
The presidential tweetstorm left little doubt that the New York Times bombshell has quickly gotten under Trump’s skin.
Trump derided the report as #FAKENEWS and said it was published with “bad intent.” But he did not deny any of the key disclosures, including that he barely paid any federal income tax for years and is deep in debt to the tune of $300 million.
Without naming the tax deductions he has taken, Trump made no effort to refute the claims that he wrote off $70,000 in hair-styling expenses and paid lavish fees to his children to hide income from his businesses.
Trump has steadfastly refused to release his tax returns as other modern presidents and presidential candidates have done.
