Touts New Website Detailing Why the Returns are Important and How House GOP Has Covered Up POTUS Tax Records Over Past Year

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, U.S. Representative Bill Pascrell, Jr. (NJ-09), a member of the House Ways and Means Committee, issued the following statement regarding efforts to release President Trump's tax returns on the one-year anniversary of when those efforts first began.

"One year has passed since I sent a letter to Ways and Means Chairman Kevin Brady asking he use his legal authority to request ten years of tax return documents for President Donald Trump so they might be reviewed for conflicts and tax compliance in closed committee," said Rep. Pascrell. "This also means that it has been one full year since Republicans decided to oppose transparency in order to politically and financially protect the President. Our opponents falsely claim we want to "rummage" through the President's taxes. We only want the committee to fulfill the President's promise to release his returns because without a full picture of President Trump's financial ties, we cannot begin to understand his potential conflicts."

Pascrell continued, "In the past year, we have taken measures - including 17 separate votes - to make public this vital information, only to have these efforts rejected by all of our Republican colleagues, save two. Also in the past year, Republicans passed major changes to our tax law, while leaving the American people in the dark on how that bill would affect the President's personal finances, including his 564 financial positions in domestic and foreign companies. We deserve to have this information available for analysis. That is why today, on the one year anniversary of my first efforts to have this information publicly released, I reaffirm my commitment to transparency and urge interested Americans learn more on my webpage on our quest for the elusive Trump tax returns. I will continue to fight for a formal release of these documents to the public."
