Texas Democratic Party: Donald Trump Has Done Everything in His Power to Take Away Healthcare Coverage From Texans in Middle of Biggest Pandemic in Texas History

Targeted News Service

AUSTIN, Texas, Oct. 28 -- The Texas Democratic Party issued the following press document on Oct. 26:

This week, the Texas Democratic Party will present our final case against Donald Trump and lay out a few of the many ways that Donald Trump has failed Texas.

First up, the defining issue in Texas today: Donald Trump has failed our healthcare and is trying to repeal affordable care in the middle of a pandemic. Trump has signed on to Indicted Texas Republican Attorney General Ken Paxton's lawsuit to repeal the Affordable Care Act. He doesn't have a healthcare plan. If Trump, Paxton, and other Texas Republicans are successful in repealing the Affordable Care Act, more than 24 million Americans and nearly 2 million Texans will lose health insurance, and 10.7 million Texans with preexisting conditions could lose protections.

Now, Trump is ramming through Amy Coney Barrett for nomination. If he is successful, healthcare will be on the line in the court, and Trump will stop at nothing to take away this healthcare coverage for Texans who need it the most.

To protect and preserve affordable healthcare and keep protections for Texans with preexisting conditions, we must elect Democrats up and down the ballot in November.

Texas Democratic Party Communications Director Abhi Rahman issued the following statement:

"Donald Trump has failed Texans in every way. The case against Trump is clear, he is dead wrong on healthcare. If Donald Trump has his way, he will repeal healthcare for millions of Texans without a plan for a replacement. Texas already ranks dead last in healthcare coverage. Trump has followed Indicted Texas Republican Attorney General Ken Paxton's lawsuit to repeal Affordable Care without a replacement and nominated Amy Coney Barrett to take away our healthcare coverage.

"To protect and preserve affordable health care, we must elect Democrats up and down the ballot in November. With one week until the election, Texans everywhere know one universal truth: Healthcare is on the ballot. To protect and preserve the Affordable Care Act and expand Medicaid in Texas, we must elect Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, and Texas Democrats down the ballot."

In 2016, Trump promised to deliver better, more affordable health care coverage to Texas families.

Trump: "We will do something really good with health care, where it'll be better for the people, and cheaper for the United States." [Trump Campaign Rally, Dallas TX, 9/14/15]

But Trump his broke to Texas families. Instead, the Trump administration has spent the past four years trying to overturn the ACA with no replacement plan in place.

If Trump's health care sabotage is successful, nearly 2 million Texans could lose their health insurance right in the middle of a global pandemic.

To make matters worse, nearly 11 million Texans could lose protections for pre-existing conditions at a time when complications from COVID-19 could become the next deniable pre-existing condition.

Under Trump, more people in Texas have lost health insurance than in any other state in the country.

According to a study of U.S. Census data, "the number of Texans who lack health insurance has soared by 689,000 during President Donald Trump's time in office -- the largest increase of any state."

According to Capital & Main, the "increases since 2017 in the percentage of people lacking health insurance follow six straight years of decline that began in 2010 with the implementation of the Affordable Care Act (ACA)" under the Obama-Biden administration.

Texas already had the highest uninsured rate of any state before the coronavirus crisis. Now, 1.6 million Texans have likely lost their employer-sponsored insurance during the pandemic.
