Summer camp in Augusta to prepare teens for emergency situations

May 13-- May 13--A Teen Community Emergency Response Team camp will be held this summer in Augusta.
The camp, hosted by Augusta Emergency Management Department, seeks to educate teens about disaster preparedness. It also offers training in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization and disaster medical operations, according to a release.
Teens must be between ages 13 and 16 at the time of registration and a Richmond County resident. Enrollment forms and applicable waivers must be completed and signed by a parent or legal guardian.
The department will also host the Augusta Fire Department Youth Explorer Program. There is no charge for the TEEN CERT portion, but there is a small insurance fee for the Youth Fire Explorer, according to the release. The class is limited in size and a meeting will be held with parents/legal guardians of those admitted into the program on June 11 at 6 p.m.
The week-long camp will begin on June 17 and end June 21, with classes held Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.. The training location will be given camp attendees at a later date.
