Springfield Township Wendy's catches fire New Year's Day
Akron Beacon Journal (OH)
SPRINGFIELD TWP. -- No one was injured Wednesday in a grill fire that closed a Wendy's restaurant on Canton Road.
Springfield Township Fire Capt. Steve Simich said firefighters responded at about 7:15 p.m. to the restaurant after a fire started over the grill. He said when firefighters arrived the building was filled with smoke, and all the occupants had evacuated.
He said firefighters, who had to open up a wall and part of the ceiling to make sure the fire hadn't spread, were on scene for about an hour.
Simich said there were no injuries. Coventry Township Fire, Lakemore Fire and Mogadore Fire were on scene.
Investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing, but Simich said they don't suspect it was intentional.
He said the damage was not extensive, and that the insurance company plans to fix the building relatively quickly.
"They plan to have it all back together within two weeks," he said.
