Southland crime: Shooting in Homewood declared homicide, and more

May 12—New Lenox

SUSPENDED LICENSE: Jack Michener, 21, of the 100 block of Maple Lane, New Lenox, was arrested and accused of driving on a suspended license April 30 at Washington and Lancaster, police said.

DOMESTIC BATTERY: Wesley Nam, 27, of the 1800 block of Heatherway Lane, was arrested and accused of domestic battery after a May 2 incident at his home, police said.

SUSPENDED LICENSE: Novella Blackmon, 28, of Joliet, was arrested and accused of driving on a suspended license at U.S. 30 and Prairie Road May 3, police said.

SUSPENDED LICENSE: Carlos Garcia, 44, of Joliet, was arrested and accused of driving on a suspended license May 5 at U.S. 30 and Cooper Road, police said.

Oak Forest

DOMESTIC BATTERY: Samantha Castaneda-Martinez, 35, of the 5000 block of Elmwood Drive, was arrested and accused of domestic battery after a May 5 incident at her home, police said.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE: A woman told police someone broke out her car windows when she was parked outside of the Rustic Oaks Apartments in the 15900 block of LeClaire Avenue May 6.

STOLEN CAR: A man told police someone stole his 2019 Chevy Traverse after he left it parked on the 16800 block of Laramie Avenue with the key in the ignition May 8. The stolen car was later recovered unoccupied in the 600 block of East 154th Street in Phoenix. The victim's wallet and keys were missing from the car when it was recovered.

Orland Park

RETAIL THEFT: Dawid Lysiak, 27, of the 10600 block of 81st Avenue, Palos Hills, was arrested and accused of retail theft after stealing merchandise from Home Depot, 7300 159th St., on April 10, police said.

SUSPENDED LICENSE: Heather Gomez, 43, of the 13700 block of Janas Parkway, Homer Glen, was arrested and accused of driving on a suspended license and using a cell phone while driving April 16 at 149th Street and LaGrange Road, police said.

CRIMINAL TRESPASS: Kayla Murphy, 22, of the 11700 block of Ridgeland Avenue, Worth, was arrested and accused of criminal trespass to land after a domestic-related incident April 20 in the 9700 block of Ravinia Lane, police said.

SUSPENDED LICENSE: Rafat Atieh, 23, of the 17000 block of 89th Avenue, Orland Hills, was arrested and accused of driving on a suspended license and speeding April 26 on Wheeler Drive, police said.

SUSPENDED LICENSE: Cortez Morrow, 20, of Chicago, was arrested and accused of driving on a suspended license and speeding April 26 in the 8200 block of West 159th Street, police said.

SUSPENDED LICENSE: Tyler Cannon, 25, of the 8500 block of Morgan Street, Chicago, was arrested and accused of driving on a suspended license and speeding April 28 in the 14400 block of LaGrange Road, police said.

SUSPENDED LICENSE: Marques Harvey, 24, of the 5400 block of Yale Lane, Matteson, was arrested and accused of driving in a suspended license and no front license plate April 28 at 156th and LaGrange Road, police said.

RETAIL THEFT: Erin Casey, 31, of the 13400 block of Circle Drive, Crestwood, was arrested and accused of retail theft after stealing merchandise from Sephora in Orland Square Mall on April 28, police said. She was also issued a three-year ban from the mall.

SUSPENDED LICENSE: Maria Lewis, 44, of the 16700 block of Gentry Lane, Tinley Park, was arrested and accused of driving on a suspended license and using a cell phone while driving April 29 at 159th Street and 80th Avenue, police said.

Tinley Park

THEFT: Police said someone stole a coin change dispenser from a cash register at a Speedway gas station, 18460 S. 80th Ave., on April 13-14. The dispenser contained approximately $110. A similar theft was reported at a Speedway in the 19700 block of Harlem Avenue in Frankfort. The suspect was driving a light-colored Buick SUV in both incidents.

RECKLESS CONDUCT: Travis Paetsch, 26, address unknown, was arrested and accused of reckless conduct after police said he was firing a rifle in his backyard "for fun" on April 15. Patesch does not possesses a FOID card, according to a police report.

DUI ARREST: Thomas Youngren, 27, address unknown, was arrested and accused of drunken driving after police discovered him asleep behind the wheel April 17 in the 7100 block of 183rd Street, police said.

RETAIL THEFT: Lanea Eldridge, 28, address unknown, was arrested and accused of retail theft after stealing $855 worth of merchandise from Burlington Coat Factory, 7061 W. 159th St., on April 24, police said. The merchandise was recovered by Orland Park police while they were investigating a retail theft at Dick's Sporting Goods.

SUSPENDED LICENSE: Ilais Castillo, 20, address unknown, was arrested and accused of driving on a suspended license after an April 26 car crash in the 8500 block of 163rd Street, police said.

DUI ARREST: Valerie Crudo, 32, address unknown, was arrested and accused of drunken driving, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and no insurance after an April 27 crash in the 16100 block of 76th Avenue, police said.

Homewood

RETAIL THEFT: Jonathan E. Green, 28, 400 block of Lincoln Highway, Chicago Heights, was arrested and accused of retail theft April 28 at the Wal-Mart Supercenter, 17550 Halsted St., after stealing merchandise selling for $183.97, police said.

HOMICIDE INVESTIGATION: The Criminal Investigations Unit and South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force are investigating the gun-related death of a 48-year-old man, whose body was discovered Saturday morning inside an office in the 900 block of 175th Street. According to police, the Cook County Medical Examiner's office has ruled the death a homicide. The Homewood Police Department Criminal Investigations Unit with the assistance of the South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force have established that this was not a random attack and that the victim was targeted, police said. Investigators believe there is no ongoing threat to the community and ask anyone with information to contact Homewood police at 708-206-3420.

DUI: Shavana Monson, 33, Calumet City, was arrested and accused of drunken driving with a blood-alcohol concentration above the legal limit, disobeying a traffic-control device and illegally transporting alcohol May 6 at 183rd Street and Dixie Highway, police said.

Oak Lawn

DUI: Evance R. Clifton, 56, Chicago, was arrested and accused of drunken driving with a blood-alcohol concentration above the legal limit, driving without insurance, two counts of improper lane use and no license on person April 24 at 95th Street and Southwest Highway, police said.

SUSPENDED LICENSE: Edgar D. Galvan, 24, Chicago, was arrested and accused of driving on a suspended license, driving without insurance, speeding and illegally transporting open alcohol April 24 in the 10800 block of Central Avenue, police said.

DUI: Larry Tello, 36, Chicago, and Elaine D. Carnithan, 34, Chicago, were arrested and accused of drunken driving during an April 24 head-on collision crash investigation in the 10100 block of Cicero Avenue, police said. Tello was also accused of driving in the wrong lane, police said.

SUSPENDED LICENSE: Terrance T. Petties, 57, Chicago, was arrested and accused of driving on a suspended license, driving without insurance and speeding April 24 in the 9400 block of Cicero Avenue, police said.

VANDALISM: The rear passenger window of a car was reported smashed April 24 in the 9900 block of Austin Avenue.

DUI: Olivia F. Del Valle, 23, Chicago, was arrested and accused of drunken driving with a blood-alcohol concentration above the legal limit and speeding April 24 at 95th Street and 54th Avenue, police said.

DISORDERLY CONDUCT: Kirbey G. Ingold, 30, 5300 block of 96th Street, was arrested and accused of keeping a disorderly house and disturbing the peace April 25 in that block after refusing to turn down loud music at 3:56 a.m., police said.

SUSPENDED LICENSE: Jaime Sotelo, 26, Chicago, was arrested and accused of driving on a suspended license April 25 in the 5400 block of 95th Street, police said.

SUSPENDED LICENSE: Mohamed K. Mohammed, 19, Chicago, was arrested and accused of driving on a suspended license, speeding and having only one functioning taillight April 26 in the 9400 block of Southwest Highway, police said.

NO LICENSE: Jimmy Garcia, 18, Chicago, was arrested and accused of driving without a valid license and aggravated speeding during an April 27 stop at 99th Street and 55th Court for driving 67 mph in a 30 mph zone, police said. Garcia was driving on a learner's permit, police said.

SUSPENDED LICENSE: Shequilia L. Smith, 29, Chicago, was arrested and accused of driving on a suspended license, driving without insurance and improperly using an electronic device while driving April 27 at Southwest Highway and Parkside Avenue, police said.

SUSPENDED LICENSE: Kendall K. Walker, 25, Chicago, was arrested and accused of driving on a suspended license, driving without insurance and expired registration during an April 27 stop in the 9400 block of 54th Avenue for failing to dim headlights, police said.

SUSPENDED LICENSE: Jimmy L. Davis Jr., 23, Chicago, was arrested and accused of driving on a suspended license and improperly transporting adult-use cannabis in a motor vehicle after officers discovered 11 grams of marijuana in a plastic sandwich bag during an April 28 stop at Southwest Highway and Kilpatrick Avenue for driving without headlights when required, police said. A passenger, Shaunte M. Strong, 30, Chicago, was also arrested and accused of improperly transporting adult-use cannabis in a motor vehicle after officers discovered six grams of marijuana in a plastic sandwich bag in her purse, police said.

BATTERY: Thomas Ellis Jr., 63, undisclosed block of Cicero Avenue, Oak Lawn, was arrested and accused of battery April 28 after pushing another customer at a grocery store in the 8700 block of Cicero Avenue, police said.

DUI: James C. Jones, 41, Chicago, was arrested and accused of drunken driving with a blood-alcohol concentration above the legal limit, driving without insurance, speeding and obstructed registration April 29 at 106th Place and Cicero Avenue, police said.

VANDALISM: Two windows were reported shattered by a projectile April 29 at a restaurant in the 10400 block of Cicero Avenue.

ASSAULT: Randy J. Hermansen, 61, undisclosed block of 92nd Street, Oak Lawn, was arrested and accused of assault April 30 in his apartment building after activating a combination stun gun-flashlight as another tenant passed him in the hallway, police said.

RETAIL THEFT: Nathanial D. Langner, 19, Chicago, was arrested and accused of retail theft April 30 at Mariano's, 11000 Cicero Avenue, after stealing medicine selling for $1,111.84, police said.

VEHICULAR TRESPASS: A Warren Avenue resident told police he twice chased off an unidentified man April 30: Once when the man illegally entered his parked car near 98th Street and again when he saw the same man illegally entering another car near Franklin Avenue.

VANDALISM: A residential window was reported shattered April 30 in an undisclosed block of Kolmar Avenue, police said.

SUSPENDED LICENSE: Jose Davila, 27, Chicago, was arrested and accused of driving on a suspended license, driving without insurance, expired registration and illegally transporting adult-use cannabis in a motor vehicle during a May 1 stop in the 9100 block of Cicero Avenue after officers recovered more than 32 grams (approximately one ounce) of marijuana in an unsealed bag, police said.

VANDALISM: Kyla L. Hayes, 24, undisclosed block of Albany Avenue, Alsip, was arrested and accused of criminally damaging property May 1 in an undisclosed block of 103rd Street after throwing a brick through a glass window, police said.

VANDALISM: Damage to a residential door frame and deadbolt lock was reported May 1 in an undisclosed block of Kilpatrick Avenue.
