SENATOR ROSEN URGES LOMBARDO TO STAND UP TO TRUMP AND KEEP NEVADANS' HEALTH CARE COSTS FROM SKYROCKETING

The following information was released by the Nevada Democratic Party:

Last night, Senator Jacky Rosen urged Joe Lombardo to stand up to Donald Trump and push his own party to reopen the government and protect Nevadans' health care. While health care costs have risen faster in Nevada than anywhere else in the nation, Lombardo continues to bend the knee to Trump and Washington Republicans as they skyrocket hardworking families' health care costs.

As Democrats fight to permanently extend the enhanced ACA tax credits that help middle class families afford health insurance, Trump and the GOP refuse to take action to protect Nevadans' health care. If Republicans don't extend these tax credits, the 95,000 Nevadans who directly benefit from lower health care costs thanks to the enhanced premium tax credits will see their costs skyrocket.

As Nevadans' utility and grocery bills continue to rise, health insurance premiums are set to increase by 26% for 110,000 Nevadans an extra $147 a month, due to Republicans allowing the enhanced tax credits to expire. Some older Nevadans will have to pay an additional $18,100 annually because Trump and Republicans would rather shut down the government than extend the policies that would keep their health care affordable.

Nevada Current: Rosen tells Lombardo instead of sending her a letter about shutdown, he should talk to Trump

A few minutes after Lombardo's statement and letter were issued to the press, Rosen responded with a statement of her own.

"I want this government shutdown to end," Rosen said, "which is why I urge Governor Lombardo to push Donald Trump and his own party in Washington to work in a bipartisan way to reopen the government and prevent a massive spike in health care costs for Nevadans."

Health insurance premiums are projected to increase substantially if the Republican action is not reversed.

Democrats have repeatedly called on Republicans to meet with them to negotiate over the insurance issue, but Republican congressional leaders, taking their cue from Trump, have refused unless Democrats pass the Republican funding bill first.
