Sen. Murphy Issues Statement on Supreme Court Decision Not to Hear Obamacare Lawsuit

WASHINGTON, Jan. 22 -- Sen. Christopher Murphy, D-Connecticut, issued the following statement:

U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn.), a member of the U.S. Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee, on Tuesday made the following statement after the United States Supreme Court rejected Democrats' request to expedite review of a lawsuit threatening the current health care system:

"The health of millions of Americans hangs in the balance all thanks to Republicans' attempt to sabotage our nation's entire health care system. Last month's appellate court decision to kick the Republicans' Affordable Care Act lawsuit back to the lower courts--and today's rejection by the Supreme Court to review the case--will only drag this out further. Our fight to protect over 130 million Americans with pre-existing conditions is not over, and we should keep asking Republicans throughout 2020 what their plan is if this lawsuit is successful."

Last month, Murphy took to the U.S. Senate floor to discuss the importance of the Affordable Care Act during open enrollment season. In July as the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals heard oral arguments in Texas v. United States, Murphy authored an op-ed in the Hartford Courant highlighting what's at stake for 522,000 residents in Connecticut and over 130 million Americans with pre-existing health conditions if the Affordable Care Act were overturned.
