Sen. Cortez Masto Issues Statement on SCOTUS Ruling Allowing Employers to Opt Out of Affordable Care Act No-Cost Birth Control Requirement

LAS VEGAS, Nevada, July 9 -- Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto, D-Nevada, issued the following statement on July 8 after the Supreme Court ruled in favor of the Trump administration's efforts to expand the number of employers who can refuse to provide free birth control for their workers despite the Affordable Care Act mandate:

"Since his first day in office, President Trump has been intent on gutting women's health care and reproductive freedoms.

"I'm disappointed that today's decision allows the Administration to continue along this dangerous path and puts a woman's basic health care decisions in the hands of her employer. Guaranteed birth control coverage is health care, and has helped thousands of Nevadans stay healthy and in control of their reproductive lives.

"I'm proud that Nevada has continued to lead the charge to protect women's health, and I'll keep fighting alongside our state to ensure everyone has access to the health services they need - from birth control to pre-existing condition coverage - because the American people deserve no less."
