SBLI Delivers Faster, Simpler Claim Payouts with CARE from Swiss Re

Business Wire

New decision engine enhances speed, accuracy, transparency and simplicity for beneficiaries

WOBURN, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--
SBLI (The Savings Bank Mutual Life Insurance Company of Massachusetts) has introduced a new advancement to its claims experience with the integration of Swiss Re’s CARE claims decision engine. Developed by Swiss Re, a leading global provider of reinsurance and insurance-based risk solutions, CARE (Claims Automated Rules Engine) is designed to support intelligent claim assessments with configurable, risk-based rules. It enables insurers to make faster, more accurate, and fully auditable claims decisions.

This innovation enhances SBLI’s ability to deliver smarter, more consistent, and simpler claim resolutions, ensuring families get the support they need with greater ease and speed.

“For over a century, policyholders have trusted SBLI to fulfill the promises they've made to their loved ones,” said Rose Conneely, chief operating officer of SBLI. “With the addition of the CARE engine, we can make the claims process faster and more transparent, giving our team greater confidence in supporting beneficiaries during difficult times and ensuring we uphold those promises.”

SBLI uses Swiss Re’s Automated Claims Experience, or ACE, to help settle many claims in fewer than 10 days — far faster than the 30-day industry average. In simple cases, such as a claim under $100,000 with a verified beneficiary, payments can even be issued in as little as one day.

CARE builds on this foundation, leveraging intelligent automation and real-time decision guidance to:

  • Help examiners make faster, more accurate claim decisions;
  • Increase operational capacity without adding complexity; and
  • Deliver a seamless, fully transparent, simple experience to claimants and their families.

“Swiss Re’s CARE engine is designed to help insurers deliver fast, consistent outcomes for their policyholders' beneficiaries, especially at one of life’s most critical moments,” said Timothy Quick, Head of Global Product Development for Life & Health Claims Solutions at Swiss Re. “We’re proud to support SBLI’s continued investment in innovative, customer-first, simplified service.”

With this latest technology addition, SBLI is continuing to modernize the claims process without losing what makes it personal. When a claim is resolved quickly and with care, it leaves a lasting impression — one that fosters long-term trust between policyholders, their families and the agents who support them.
