Rep. Scalise Issues Statement on National Flood Insurance Program

WASHINGTON, Nov. 29 -- House Majority Whip Steve Scalise, R-Louisiana, issued the following statement on the House vote of 350-46 to extend the National Flood Insurance Program:

The bill now heads to the Senate to be voted on.

"The National Flood Insurance Program is vital for families and businesses in Southeast Louisiana and around the country, and I will not stop fighting for long-term improvements to this program.

"As we work toward passing a long-term reauthorization of NFIP, we must give certainty to all those families who depend on it by not allowing any lapses.

"While this one-week extension is certainly not ideal, I am committed to keep working with my colleagues in the House and Senate to find a long-term solution that provides affordability and sustainability for policyholders and strong protections for taxpayers."
