Rep. Ryan Again Urges President Trump to Intervene on Behalf of Delphi Salaried Retirees

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio, Oct. 1 -- Rep. Tim Ryan, D-Ohio, issued the following news release on Sept. 30:

Congressmen Tim Ryan (D-OH) and Mike Turner (R-OH) led a bipartisan group of lawmakers in urging President Trump to intervene on behalf of Delphi salaried retirees to ensure that the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation (PBGC) restores the retirees' pensions to the greatest extent possible and makes the retirees whole.

Today's letter comes five days after Governor Mike DeWine and Congressman Turner asked President Trump to intervene while on board Air Force One.

"The Delphi salaried retirees deserve to be made whole, and I continue to urge the Administration to work with us and with the Delphi Salaried Retirees to fix this issue. I have worked across the aisle since day one on this issue, calling on both the Obama and Trump Administrations to intervene on their behalf. I urge President Trump to address this immediately. They shouldn't have to wait another day to receive the benefits they earned," said Rep. Tim Ryan.

In April 2020, Reps. Ryan, Turner, and Kildee urged President Trump to support the Delphi Salaried Retirees by requesting that the PBGC join the retirees in asking the Sixth Circuit Court for a stay of the proceedings, which would allow for a negotiated settlement. In May 2020, Ryan was joined by Ohio Reps. Mike Turner, Bill Johnson, and Steve Chabot in calling on President Trump to restore the pension plans of Delphi Salaried Retirees before any further coronavirus relief for the auto industry. On September 4, 2020, the PBGC responded to Ryan's letters on the subject stating that:

"On September 1, 2020, a three-judge panel of United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit ruled in PBGC's favor in the lawsuit involving PBGC and the Delphi Salaried Retirees Association (DSRA)--in which DSRA challenged the termination of the Salaried Plan. According to the panel, "the retirees have not raised any argument warranting reversal" of a previous federal District Court ruling in PBGC's favor."
