WASHINGTON, June 15 -- Rep. Keith Rothfus, R-Pa., issued the following news release:
As part of Republicans' continued efforts to reform our health care system and improve access to quality care, the House today passed the VETERAN Act (H.R. 2372), which would make law an Internal Revenue Service (IRS) regulation allowing eligible veterans to accept certain federal subsidies for private health insurance coverage instead of enrolling in health coverage provided by the Department of Veterans Affairs. The House also passed the Broader Options for Americans Act (H.R. 2579), which would ensure the advanceable, refundable tax credits that would be created under the American Health Care Act (AHCA) to subsidize the purchase of health insurance in the individual market would also be available for unsubsidized COBRA continuation coverage.
"These bills reflect Republicans' commitment to tackling all of the obstacles Americans currently face to accessing affordable, quality health care," said Congressman Rothfus. "Many of our veterans had concerns about how our Obamacare replacement, the American Health Care Act, would affect their coverage. The VETERAN Act makes necessary adjustments to help ensure those veterans who need access to tax credits for the purchase of health insurance can access them."
