WASHINGTON, April 25 -- Rep. Harold Rogers, R-Kentucky, issued the following news release:
President Donald Trump approved Governor Andy Beshear's request for a Major Emergency Disaster Declaration for the Commonwealth of Kentucky stemming from severe storms in February. The approval comes just three weeks since Members of Kentucky's Federal Delegation sent a joint letter to the President in support of Governor Beshear's request. The extended heavy rain produced flooding, mudslides, and landslides, resulting in three deaths and widespread damage across the state.
"As we battle the health-related and economic impact of the coronavirus pandemic, these emergency federal dollars will provide welcomed relief for our communities that were hit hard by severe storms just before this health crisis began.
I applaud President Trump for his swift action to ensure federal funds are released to help our communities recover from the damage left behind by the February storms," said Congressman Rogers, Dean of Kentucky's Federal Delegation.
The Major Disaster Declaration releases public assistance funding for emergency repairs in the following counties that were hardest hit by the storms: Bell, Boyd, Butler, Clay, Harlan, Henderson, Hickman, Johnson, Knott, Knox, Lawrence, Leslie, Letcher, Lewis, Magoffin, McCracken, McCreary, Menifee, Metcalfe, Morgan, Monroe, Owsley, Perry, Pike, Powell, Union, and Whitley.
