Rep. Richmond Statement on Changes to the Republican Healthcare Bill
Washington, DC - Today, Congressman Cedric Richmond (LA-02), released the following statement on the most recent changes to the Republican healthcare proposal, the American Health Care Act (AHCA):
"Unfortunately, the changes announced last night do nothing to fix the bill's foundational problems," said Rep. Richmond. "These new changes make a bad bill worse by allowing states to gut requirements that all plans provide essential health benefits, such as maternity care and mental health services, and eliminate protections for those with pre-existing conditions.
"Louisianans throughout the state have stood up to protect the healthcare they've gained under the Affordable Care Act. Now is the time for Republicans to join Democrats to improve the law, not undo the progress we have made. We cannot afford to return to the wild, wild west of healthcare where costs are high, access is limited, and the oldest, poorest and sickest among us are left behind."
