REP. O’HALLERAN BLASTS “UNACCEPTABLE” POLITICAL GAMES OVER HEALTH CARE

Washington, DC - Following the announcement that votes on the American Health Care Act were cancelled today due to a lack of support from the Republican caucus, Congressman Tom O'Halleran (AZ-01) released the following statement:

"This past week, the American people have been left in the dark as the future of our health care system has changed shape and form countless times," said Rep. O'Halleran. "Major legislation like this should not be drafted and revised in closed-door meetings with such little chance for feedback or input. These political games are unacceptable."

CBO analysis of the GOP health care bill estimates nearly 24 million people will lose insurance coverage and premium prices will skyrocket by 15 to 20 percent through 2020. In addition, the legislation would strip price protections for those nearing retirement, shorten the solvency of the Medicare Trust Fund, and cap Medicaid spending, disproportionately impacting low-income households, seniors, and our rural hospitals.

"This health care bill will be disastrous for hardworking Arizona families and those nearing retirement," continued O'Halleran. "I continue to urge my colleagues to consider a bipartisan solution that brings down the cost of coverage and care and solves the health care problems in our country."
