Rep. Newhouse Issues Statement on Extension of Children’s Health Insurance

WASHINGTON, Nov. 3 -- Rep. Dan Newhouse, R-Wash., issued the following statement:

Rep. Dan Newhouse (R-WA) released the following statement after the House voted to approve the CHAMPIONING HEALTHY KIDS Act. The CHAMPIONING HEALTHY KIDS Act combines health care funding extensions included in H.R. 3921, the Helping Ensure Access for Little Ones, Toddlers, and Hopeful Youth by Keeping Insurance Delivery Stable Act of 2017 or the HEALTHY KIDS Act, and H.R. 3922, the Community Health And Medical Professionals Improve Our Nation Act of 2017 or the CHAMPION Act:

"I was pleased to support Community Health Centers in Central Washington with today's House vote reauthorizing the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP) and other vital health programs that are essential to ensuring that Americans continue to have access to these critically important services."

The CHAMPIONING HEALTHY KIDS Act:

* Funds the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP). CHIP provides health care to lower-income children, and this bill would extend the funding for five years.

* Extends funding for the Community Health Center Fund (CHCF) for two additional years. This funding is used at federally qualified health centers, which provide an array of comprehensive health services to medically-underserved populations. Community health centers serve over 280,000 constituents in Washington's 4th District every year.

* Provides funding for Teaching Health Centers, so we can continue to train primary care doctors and retain them at community-based clinics in rural areas. With three Teaching Health Centers in Central Washington, this funding is important to ensure that we have qualified, well-educated doctors providing care for families in less-populated areas.
