WASHINGTON, Jan. 23 -- Rep. Ann McLane Kuster, D-N.H., issued the following statement on the reinstatement of the Global Gag Rule by President Donald Trump. The Global Gag Rule, also known as the Mexico City Policy, prohibits international organizations receiving U.S. funding from having anything to do with abortion. This prohibition includes providing information about abortion or referrals to providers who offer legal and safe abortions.
"I'm very disappointed that as one of his first actions as President, Donald Trump will be harming poor women and families in countries that can least afford it.
"The Global Gag Rule severely limits the ability of international aid organizations to provide comprehensive reproductive healthcare to women around the world and poses a very real threat to our global progress on maternal and child health. The reinstatement of the Global Gag Rule is a clear signal that the Trump Administration does not respect women's reproductive rights and health."
