Rep. Collins Commends FEMA for Approval of Amended Disaster Declaration to Include Monroe County

WASHINGTON, Jan. 19 -- Rep. Chris Collins, R-New York, issued the following news release:

Congressman Chris Collins (NY-27) commended the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for approving an amended disaster declaration to include assistance for flooding in Monroe County along the Lake Ontario shoreline. This flooding has been attributable to the failed Plan 2014 that leaves the south shore of Lake Ontario in danger of historic erosion. After a disaster declaration was issued on November 14, 2017 for six other New York counties, Collins has been working closely with the Trump Administration to make sure Monroe would be included.

"My constituent in Monroe County desperately needed this assistance, and I immediately made the Trump Administration aware of how important it was to amend the declaration from November," said Collins. "I thank President Trump for his support and prompt approval of this assistance."

Federal funding is available to the State and to tribal and eligible local governments and certain private nonprofit organizations on a cost-sharing basis for emergency work and the repair or replacement of facilities damaged by the flooding.

Collins added: "I'm continuing to work with the Trump Administration to replace the International Joint Commission (IJC) commissioners with individuals from Western New York that represent our needs. I hope this is the last time such funding needs to be secured."
