Rep. Bustos Holds Ag Roundtable With Crop Insurance Stakeholders

WASHINGTON, Dec. 4 -- Rep. Cheri Bustos, D-Illinois, issued the following news release on Dec. 3, 2021:
Congresswoman Cheri Bustos (IL-17),Chair of the General Farm Commodities and Risk Management Subcommittee of the House Agriculture Committee, held a roundtable with stakeholders of the federal crop insurance program. During the roundtable, Members and stakeholders discussed crop insurance, the efforts undertaken by USDA and industry leaders to enhance products available to producers and the work being done to help bring socially disadvantaged and other underserved producers into the program.
"Family farmers across the country have experienced disaster conditions in recent years that have caused crop losses, and the crop insurance program has been a critical tool to help folks continue farming," said Congresswoman Bustos.
"Thank you to everyone who joined for today's discussion about this important federal program and how we best support family farmers of all backgrounds. Today's discussion was one in a series of roundtables we've held to gather input on how existing programs are working for folks on the ground, and I look forward to continuing this ongoing dialogue."
Participants included Members of the House Agriculture Committee, Marva Ulleland representing the Crop Insurance Professionals Association (CIPA), Grant Adams, Chairman of the American Association of Crop Insurers (AACI), Brian Young, Chairman of the Crop Insurance and Reinsurance Bureau (CIRB) and Jeff Rutledge, a corn, rice and soybean farmer.
