Rep. Brooks Praises Improvements to Health Care Bill

WASHINGTON, May 25 -- Rep. Mo Brooks, R-Ala., issued the following statement regarding the Congressional Budget Office's updated report on the American Health Care Act that confirms dramatic health insurance premium cuts due to the work of Congressman Brooks and the House Freedom Caucus:

"Earlier this week a U.S. Department of Health and Human Services report validated the economic devastation ObamaCare has inflicted on Americans from a doubling of health insurance premiums nationally and a nation-worst tripling of health insurance costs for already-struggling Alabama families. I am proud to have worked with President Trump, Vice President Pence, and the House Freedom Caucus to improve the original Republican healthcare bill by substantially lowering health insurance costs for Americans. The latest report released from the Congressional Budget Office (CBO), released yesterday, May 24th, confirms these hard-won improvements."

Brooks continued, "According to the CBO, the American Health Care Act (AHCA) will lower average premiums in the individual market by 4 to 30 percent or more, depending on the state. While the cuts to health insurance premiums costs are a wonderful improvement, there is more good news! In addition, the amended health care bill helps families pay for their health insurance with tax credits ranging from between $2,000- $4,000 per year for an individual and up to $14,000 per year for a family. That help is HUGE!"

Brooks added, "But that is not all! The CBO confirms that the AHCA cuts America's expected deficit by $119 billion while delivering another $1 trillion in tax cuts because onerous ObamaCare taxes are repealed. The AHCA eliminates the individual and employer mandate penalties, the Medical Device Tax, the Health Insurance Tax, and the tax on prescription medications - these are the taxes that hurt low- and middle-income Americans the most!"

Brooks concluded, "There is still much work to be done, but the AHCA is a step towards providing Americans the freedom to choose health plans that are right for them at a cost they can afford, not plans forced on them by Washington bureaucrats."
