– Reed Smith Adds Nicholas Insua as Insurance Recovery Group Partner in Princeton, New York

Targeted News Service (Press Releases)

NEW YORK, Jan. 21 (TNSPer) -- Reed Smith, a law firm, issued the following news release on Jan. 20, 2022:

Reed Smith today announced Nicholas M. Insua has joined the firm's Insurance Recovery Group as a partner in Princeton and New York. His practice focuses on insurance recovery litigation and counselling, as well as general business litigation. He joins from Anderson Kill where he was a Shareholder.

"Nick has significant experience handling claims involving catastrophic first-party property damage and business interruption; among the most in demand areas right now due to two major forces - the pandemic and an increase in catastrophic natural disasters," said partner David Halbreich, chair of Reed Smith's Insurance Recovery Group.

"We're looking forward to the talent and additional bench strength he will bring to the group at an incredibly busy time."

Insua represents companies and executives under D&O and E&O policies, as well as under general liability insurance policies, employment practices liability policies, inland marine insurance policies, and fidelity and crime policies. His experience extends to reinsurance arbitration, including handling confidential domestic and foreign matters.

"It's the right time in my career to capitalize on the global platform of a large law firm with broader opportunities for developing my practice and servicing my clients," said Insua. "I look forward to reconnecting with the members of the firm's Insurance Recovery Practice with whom I have longstanding personal and professional connections."

Insua is the co-author of Business Income Insurance Disputes with Reed Smith partner Richard Lewis, and is a frequent author and lecturer on time-element insurance.

Insua also has a strong record of pro bono service, he currently serves on the Board of Trustees of Volunteer Lawyers for Justice of New Jersey (vljnj.org), an organization he has been involved in for a decade. In the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, through VLJ, he created training manuals and trained lawyers, companies and homeowners that suffered losses in the storm, to manage insurance claims. He has represented clients seeking asylum and other forms of relief from deportation and has collaborated with the ACLU of New Jersey to overturn city ordinances that criminalized seeking food or monetary assistance. Insua formerly chaired the Pro Bono Committee of the New Jersey State Bar Association.

A 2000 graduate of Rutgers School of Law, Insua received his B.A. from Yale University in 1996. He was a partner at McCarter & English from 2008 to 2019, an associate at Reed Smith in 2009, and prior to that an associate at Anderson Kill; and a law clerk at the Supreme Court of New Jersey.

"Nick has spent his career representing policyholders in obtaining insurance benefits that they paid for but are in dispute; his practice is perfectly aligned with our firm's policyholder practice," said New Jersey Office Managing Partner Diane Bettino. "He already has strong relationships and a strong reputation here and we are thrilled he has rejoined the firm."

Reed Smith's Insurance Recovery Practice was named Insurance "Litigation Department of the Year" for 2021 by The American Lawyer for its handling of several landmark cases over the past two years. A globally recognized policyholder practice, the firm's Insurance Recovery Group assists the world's largest companies in resolving their most complex coverage disputes. The group is known for its deep bench of experienced lawyers, legacy presence across most industries, flexible fee structures, and innovative technology resources.
