Providence building evacuated after car crashes into it
Providence Journal (RI)
PROVIDENCE -- A city man drove into the side of a building on Vinton Street Monday night, police said.
Markese Davis, 27, was charged with operating without a license and cited for operating without insurance, operating with a canceled registration, improper use of registration and several traffic offenses, including reasonable and prudent speed.
Police said he was driving a 2007 Chrysler 300 on Tell Street when he tried to take a left onto Vinton and instead struck the fence and then the foundation at around 9:15 p.m. The crash disabled the car, but no major injuries were reported.
Residents had to be evacuated, but an inspector said the building didn't suffer any structural damage and they could re-enter. Witnesses told police that two people fled the car after Davis crashed, but police said he refused to give them information about passengers.
