Pennsylvania Democratic Party: Senator Laughlin Slams Affordable Care Act, Health Care Protections in Unearthed Letter

HARRISBURG, Pennsylvania, Oct. 2 -- The Pennsylvania Democratic Party issued the following news:
Senator Dan Laughlin thinks the Affordable Care Act is a "mess," according to an unearthed rambling letter he wrote in 2013. Laughlin slammed the health care law that provides health coverage for 858,000 Pennsylvanians, and protects over 5 million Pennsylvanians with pre-existing conditions.
"It would seem that the Affordable Care Act is anything but that. I'm sure that members of Congress appreciate that they don't have to sign up for this mess," Laughlin wrote.
Laughlin has a record of opposing accessible health care. In addition to opposing the Affordable Care Act, he also supports giving insurance companies the power to overrule doctors on prescriptions, and allowing insurance plans to cut coverage for maternity care.
"Dan Laughlin is another partisan Republican who wants to take away health care and strip protections for people with pre-existing conditions, and we shouldn't be surprised," said Pennsylvania Democratic Party spokesman Brendan Welch. "After all, he votes with the leaders of his party 97 percent of the time. When push comes to shove, Laughlin will always side with extremist Harrisburg Republicans and special interests instead of Erie families."
