PDI’s Medical Coding/Billing Certificate Program Begins This March 27 in Frisco

PDI's Medical Coding/Billing Certificate Program is scheduled to begin March 27, 2017, at the University of North Texas' New College of Frisco.

In addition to preparing participants for the Certified Medical Coder® (CMC) ® exam, PDI provides the training required to sit for the CMC® exam, the exam preparation course, and a seat at the CMC® exam, hosted by Practice Management Institute (PMI). PMI oversees the CMC® designation, a certification designed only for physician-based coding professionals.

Earning the CMC® designation can validate personal achievement, demonstrate commitment to the industry, improve employer confidence, and help guard the practice against fraud and abuse, according to Tami Russell, PDI Program Director.

In addition to the opportunity to take the CMC® exam, PDI's program prepares individuals to work in healthcare as medical coders, using the insurance industry standards of ICD-10 coding, CPT coding and HCPCS coding*, and medical billers, the professionals who are trained to submit and follow up on health insurance company claims.

The 12-week program, held two evenings a week and select Saturdays, gives participants access to the specialized skills needed to succeed in well-paying positions within hospitals, clinics, physicians' offices and insurance companies or billing agencies.

Graduates will be prepared to perform administrative support functions including:

• Medical Billing and Coding
• Admitting Clerk
• ER registration
• Hospital Cashier
• Claims Processor
• Collections Clerk
• Medical Front Office
• Insurance Follow- Up
• Hospital Accounting Clerk

The program requires no prerequisites and provides introductory instruction in anatomy, medical and insurance terminology, office policies and procedures. The course culminates with a hands-on training lab using the Medisoft® billing software application.

Instructors for this program are Libby Purser, and Sanya Belcher.

Ms. Purser, CPC, CMC, CMIS, CMOM, has spent the last 20 years in the healthcare industry. She currently works as the Billing and Coding Manager for a large clinic. As a Certified Healthcare Instructor, she has been the Senior Instructor at the PDI/UNT Medical Billing Specialist programs for 15 years.

Ms. Belcher brings 12 years of multi-specialty experience. She has been the Billing and Coding Coordinator for a large physician practice that also includes Internal Medicine for the past ten years. She has been an associate instructor for PDI/UNT for five years. She holds certifications with both PMI and AAPC, and is a certified ICD-10 trainer. She is currently training in Risk Adjustment.
