One injured in Tuesday night crash near James River bridge
Aberdeen American News (SD)
March 14--One person was taken to an area hospital and another refused medical treatment following a two-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 12 east of Aberdeen Tuesday night, said Brown County Chief Deputy Tom Schmitt.
He said a vehicle was traveling east on Highway 12 around 9:45 p.m. when another vehicle struck it from behind near the intersection of 398th Avenue. That's near the James River bridge.
According to Schmitt, the first vehicle was experiencing mechanical issues and was traveling around 40 mph when it was struck.
"It was probably unintentional," Schmitt said.
The collision caused the first vehicle to leave the road to the right and travel down the embankment. It ended up in a slough, Schmitt said. He added that the vehicle remained upright and there was no indication that the driver had been extracted.
The name of that driver is not being released. Schmitt said he was transported to Sanford Aberdeen with nonincapacitating injuries.
The driver of the other vehicle was Brenda Huber, 53, of Eureka. Schmitt said Huber was cited with careless driving and failing to maintain insurance. Schmitt said that Huber complained of a head injury but refused treatment at the scene.
