Perhaps the most important issue of our time is now in the hands of the U.S. Senate. The men on the committee have received campaign donations from health insurance companies totaling more than $2,776,012 (source: MapLight.com).
One woman, Sen. Shelley Moore Capito of West Virginia, was asked to join after the hoopla about no women being on the committee. The other two women senators, Susan Collins of Maine and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, are no votes because of Planned Parenthood defunding.
Whatever you call it: Medicare for All, universal health care or single payer, would mean that our premiums would go to taxes, not to insurance companies. They would have to find new jobs. The middle men and all the fingers in the pie (medical billing, etc) would disappear.
No one wants their Medicare taken away. It is a government program that works. Think about that. We pay taxes for improvements in so many things: roads, postal service, parks firefighting, police. You get the picture. We are one of the only countries without universal health care.
Now is the time! See the movie at the Roxy on Sept. 18, and UCC church on August 9 from 6 to 9 p.m.
